Annual Report for Holiday Club 2017

Thanks to an amazing, dedicated group of volunteers, enthusiastic families and generous leaders, PACT Holiday Club was very much enjoyed by 120 children aged 0-11 and their families.

Each morning started with praise and worship. The band seemed to grow every day, leading us in songs and getting the children (and parents) moving! Each day a minister or leader from a local church spoke to us on the themes for the week – “Who is Jesus?,” “A Source of Love,” “Ten Commandments,” “Good News,” and “One/ Unity”

Children under age 8 stayed with their parents or carers and went to a wide variety of activities, always having the choice to go back to the Sports Hall and do lots of arts and crafts based on the day’s theme or play with toys. Playball, Lyndsey from Fiddlesticks, Sarah from Pyjama Drama and Rebecca from Rebecca Edwards Dance got them using their voices, imaginations and energy to have fun and be healthy.

The Juniors (ages 8-11) left their parents and had at least two sessions per day, plus a break for a snack. Belinda and Carole led a team, engaging the children with claywork, badge-making, t-shirt making, face painting, mask making and other assorted crafts. The team from Kings Arms Youth Centre enthusiastically led a group every day, with games, high-energy activities and lots of fun.

The last day included a longer opening session, celebrating all that had been done during the week, and featured a dance routine from the Juniors, which they had created with Rebecca.

We are so grateful to the amazing team of 39 volunteers, some of whom gave a morning, some who gave a full week and extra time before or after. I cannot thank them enough, for their commitment, flexibility, creativity, energy and good cheer. 16 of these volunteers were under the age of 18, some choosing to volunteer more days this year than planned, or bringing along a friend who was inspired by the fun they had last year – thank you volunteers! Extra-special thanks to the three volunteers who put on a story and rhyme time with only 2 days’ notice!

After organising PACT Holiday Club by myself for two years, I have decided to step down. I have created a detailed list of the tasks which need to be done to make it happen in the way it has been done. Of course, future volunteers and leaders may choose to change things. Many of the jobs would take only a few hours or even less, but it does need a committee or group to take leadership and ensure it happens. There is support available to help a new team to take this on. If you think that you could help, please do contact Helen Mason at Life Church (01730 231 400) or me at pactholidayclub@outlook.com

120 children and 39 volunteers are a huge indication of how much PACT Holiday Club is valued and wanted locally. It is such an amazing week, a real local institution of over 40 years – please help us to ensure this happens again for the children and families of the Petersfield area.
