Annual Report: Butser Home Start 2009

We have another successful year, our team of Nicola Winter, Trish Briggs and Valerie Lattimer and Kendel Simcox, together with our volunteers and trustees and an expanding group of supporters have continued to develop the scheme so that we have made a real difference to the lives of our families and their children in this our 10th Anniversary Year.

Our Family Groups in Horndean and Petersfield, have proved their worth in encouraging families to get out and engage with others and we are now working closely with the new Children’s Centres to ensure that all our families receive the level of support that is appropriate. We have continued to work with the Hampshire Home-Start schemes to ensure funding from Hampshire County Council Childrens’ Department but regrettably the Health Service through the Primary Care Trust has not funded us this year. However, we have been able to obtain funding from a range of trusts, voluntary groups, individuals, local councillors, East Hampshire District, Parish and Town Councils. Our fundraising continued with a variety of events, including a Fashion Show, Carol Concert and Quiz and we are now seeking to encourage Friends to help us fundraise in the local community.

We have to find some £70,000 each year which is a huge challenge. So far we have succeeded but as needs increase and the funding position becomes more difficult it is not going to be easy.

I am grateful to our trustees for their continued support and am pleased that Audrey Hollingbery and Annett Heitsch are joining us. I have now been Chairman for over 3 years and consider that it is time for a change and new blood.

I am proud that we are a local scheme deeply involved with our community. We provide essential support to local families in times of need and stress. This is why Home-Start Butser has to continue with its work and respond the requirements of our families and children particularly when times are difficult.
