Engage: 1 November 2010
Canon Andrew White, the Anglican Vicar of Baghdad, spoke to a capacity audience of over 200 at The Petersfield School last night.
Canon White is Vicar of St. George’s Church in the centre of the war-torn city. He had been invited to talk at an “Engage” event for Petersfield Area Churches Together (PACT).
Andrew was interviewed by Steve Dove of Life Church Petersfield and in answer to questions gave a the audience a wonderful feeling of hope for the future. Thousands of Iraqi Christians attend services St. George’s every week and the first ever Iraqi priest has just been ordained. Andrew spoke passionately about reconciliation in the Middle East and the love of Jesus Christ. During the interview his mobile phone rang. A member of his congregation in Baghdad then spoke with him, and the audience, for ten minutes!
At the end of the evening, a retiring collection was taken. The remarkable sum of over £2,600 was given for the work of Andrew and his organisation, the Foundation for Relief and Reconciliation in the Middle East.
Listen to the interview and talk on the Life Church Petersfield web site.
