Being a Blessing

In my early 20’s I was told that I had the artistic and creative ability of a seven year old. Years later these carelessly spoken words had affected my ability to be creative. I considered myself to be a failure and despite the time and effort I put into creative pieces I am never content or happy with the results. So I limited myself to small and simple – until I came across some beautiful purple wool. It was exactly the right shade that a friend would wear, so I applied myself to creating something special for her. Despite the many false starts I knitted a seamless jumper for her and she was delighted and blessed.

Jesus tells his disciples that the widow who gave her mite with a willing heart would be blessed; this Bible story so resonated with me when I created the jumper as my choice was to do something that would be a blessing and a joy to my friend – and by doing so it made me feel good about what I had done.

I believe that God delights in our generosity when we commit acts of kindness, no matter how large or small and of course it has a brilliant effect for us too, for we will feel positive and good about ourselves. So as we approach Christmas let us remember that handmade gifts can bring joy and blessing to the recipient.
